Design Indaba 2011 Nebula Collection

Willowlamp Launched two new designs 'eliptical nebula' and 'spiral nebula' at the 2011 design Indaba. These pieces are indended as illuminated artistic sculptural pieces and are an attempt to turn lighting design into art & sculpture but still be a manufacturable item.

These works were designs by Adam Hoets and produced at willowlamps new factory space in Jeppestown johannesburg. The design is inspired by spiraling forms in nature from the very small to the very large... from seashells to spiral galaxies.

Since showing the work in Germany at Ambiente, we continue to develop our export relationships through another trade fair.
On 14-18 May 2010 we showed with Amaridian gallery at the ICFF in New York City. Adam and Sian were lucky enough to get to NYC for the exhibition and meet some of their faraway clients.

Droplet 1000mm diameter in Silver/Chrome

Willowlamp is proud to introduce a new collection: Êla. Inspired by water and named after the Sotho word for flow, Êla embodies the characteristics which typify Willowlamp’s style: a marriage between organic forms and industrial materials, craft and design.

Droplet is the first piece from this new collection. Created out of a set of cascading steel rings, the piece was inspired by droplets of water, both in its overall shape and in the detail of the tassels of chain which make up the chandelier.

Further designs for the collection are already in the works!!

We were recently asked to produce our famous Flower of Life Chandelier for a hotel in Cairo, but in a custom size. The result is this custom made, 2.7 meter diameter Flower of Life Chandelier.

It really is a thrill to see how far we can push the materials we use and our manufacturing capabilities. And of course, it wouldn't have been possible without the help of our amazing Willowlamp team.

Elle Decoration Designer of the Year 2009

A belated Happy New Year from Willowlamp! We've already started 2009 on a high after being awarded the Designer of the Year award by Elle Decor.

The award was sponsored by Lexus, their promo featuring our LED Rose Chandelier.

The Deco shop page showcased our Downlighter Retro-fit lights in brass and silver...

...and the edition also featured our Scalloped Pendant Lamp which is currently hanging in Cape Town's newly refurbished Grand Daddy Hotel.

We'll be in Cape Town at the end of Feb for the Design Indaba conference which looks set to be a really interesting and inspiring event. Maybe see you there....

We’ve graced the pages of many of South Africa’s national papers this past week! The ‘verve’ supplement came out with the Star, the Argus and the Daily Times on Tuesday the 19th of August. There was also an article in the Times (Business Times) on Wednesday the 20th of August and the Financial Times weekly publication put out on the week starting 22nd of August.

Rooms on View Expo - Joburg, May 2008

The first big showing in our home city comes in the May 2008 at the ‘Rooms on View’ Interior design Exposition. Held at the Sandton convention centre, it’s the best interior design show Johannesburg has to offer and we were happy to show there for the first time. Our new Protea chandelier and Fuscia chandelier were also shown for the first time in Johannesburg.

City Salon, Sydney Australia

Photograph of the main styling room in the Renya Xydis ‘City Salon’. Put together by Blainey North Interiors (Sydney) the salon has bevelled parquetry mirrors on the ceiling to reflect light and activity in the space. The pattern in the ‘Bisazza’ wall tiles refer back to the ‘Flower of life’ sacred geometry pattern used in our chandeliers.

Willowlamp recently presented a new collection of luminaires at the Design Indaba Expo last month.

The collection shows five new flat-pack chandeliers, all inspired by indigenous flowers or flowers from our favorite memories.

The 'Rose' uses ultra low-energy LED design at 17W in total!

The 'Fuscia' is our most sculptural piece to date and uses low-voltage G4 lamps. The 'Crocus' is a tiny single lamp chandelier and the 'Protea' is beautiful with it's old fashioned tiers, layered with raw brass chain. The 'Frangipani' (also a single bulb luminaire) has a five petal rotated design. A new baby 'Moonflower' has been developed in a smaller size and was also included in the 2008 'Bloom' collection.

This was our second public showing at the Cape Town design indaba. We featured a collection of new designs, the faraway tree, moonflower, ngoma drum, pod lamp and loop lamp. Again, we were met with an overwhelming response from the public.

Elle decoration South Africa awarded willowlamp in the lighting category for the best lighting design in South Africa. The award was for the 'Flower of Life' chandelier which is a contemporary play on a 1920's theme. The design has become a design Icon for the willowlamp brand and is currently gaining recognition in the USA, Europe and the middle east.

Article in vogue living October 2006 featuring the 'flower of life' chandelier. This chandelier was made for Karolina Kurkova (in picture), the Czech supermodel. It was for her New York apartment which is featured here.

She was also our first customer in the USA. The lamp was sold through our USA agents - Amaridian.

wllowlamp was first launched at the cape town design indaba in february 2006. The public response was overwhelming!! We took a small 3x1m stand and had shoestring budget for marketing material. We also launched our first website willowlamp.com at the expo. We managed to hire Rex, a new hot johanesburg based graphic design company to help with the website and marketing material. Thanks to their clever ideas we were able to produce really beautiful brochures and a well designed website for very little money
